Alabama, Auburn on list of 32 universities ‘most friendly’ to junior faculty
Huntsville Times – Nov. 19
The University of Alabama and Auburn University have been rated among the nation’s 32 colleges and universities that are most friendly to junior faculty. The two universities were listed in a new report from the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education, a 160-member consortium based at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. The report noted that recruiting junior faculty members can come at a hefty price for already cash-strapped universities, especially if unsatisfied recruits become alienated employees, or decide to leave. The report broke schools down by doctoral/research, master’s institutions and Baccalaureate institutions. Alabama and Auburn, the only two in-state schools to make the list, were listed in the doctoral/research listing.
