James Fowler, president of the UA Student Government Association, will be calling students Wednesday, Sept. 8 to inform them about this new way of disseminating information called “teleforum.” The 60-minute teleforum, which is similar to a telephone town hall meeting, will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9. UA students finding themselves available to take extra classes this semester now have a shorter, 10-week semester to do so. Registration for Fall 2 is underway via myBama. Most Fall 2 classes will be taught online through the College of Continuing Studies, with some classes to be taught in a traditional classroom setting. Hours will count as a part of the maximum course load of 16 hours. Classes begin Sept. 27. The last day to add or drop a class for 100 percent credit is Oct. 1. Fall 2 classes end at the same time as the regular semester. Students receiving federal financial aid should contact the financial aid office to determine if aid will be affected. A student’s tuition may increase when Fall 2 courses are added, so students should go to the student receivables website at http://studentreceivables.ua.edu. More information: Rebecca Pow at 348-6025.

The High Tide Club provides an exciting and engaging game-day experience for students attending Alabama home football games. The bottom of the upper deck of the south end zone features reserved seats for High Tide Club members. Benefits include free T-shirts and concession giveaways throughout the season, as well as an opportunity to receive book scholarships. Easier entrance into the stadium will be available at Gate 30. Students can join the High Tide Club for $10, and the membership fee will be charged to their student accounts. More information: http://sga.ua.edu/hightide.cfm.

Fans attending Quad events prior to each home football game are encouraged to drop off game-day recyclables at a tent east of the Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library. Plastic, aluminum and cardboard will be accepted at the tent. Recycling tent operation for the game against Penn State will be noon-5:30 p.m. on Sept. 11. UA employees will hand out recycling bags to individual groups tailgating on the Quad so that cardboard, aluminum cans, plastic cups, food wrappers and other types of plastics, including ice bags, can be recycled.

University Boulevard from Wallace Wade Avenue to Sixth Avenue will undergo roadway resurfacing beginning at 7 p.m. on Sept. 16. The project is expected to be complete by Sept. 25, pending no inclement weather. Two lanes will be open at all times for vehicular traffic, proper traffic control will be in place and flagmen will be present to direct traffic. Expect slight delays while traveling to and from campus in this area. Contact Sommer Coleman, project manager, at 348-5950 for more information.

To keep students informed if severe weather or an emergency occurs on campus, the University uses UA Alerts to simultaneously send voice calls and text messages to cell phones and e-mails to myBama and Crimson e-mail accounts. In an emergency, an e-mail will be sent to a student’s myBama account. Students should make sure that their contact information on myBama is updated. Students who do not check their myBama e-mail accounts need to turn on e-mail forwarding. Students can find directions for doing this under the “Student Tab” on myBama. To view and make changes to their information online, students can log into their myBama accounts at http://mybama.ua.edu. Click here to get more information and step-by-step instructions for updating information on myBama.
