Tutwiler Hall, Bryant Museum and School of Law locations of the University Supply Store will close Sept. 23-26 for inventory. The Ferguson Center location will close Sept. 24-26. All locations will reopen on Sept. 27 at 8 a.m., assuming no recounts are required. Patrons can shop online at http://supestore.ua.edu.

Parking at The Park at Manderson Landing will be affected from now until noon on Sept. 26 while the 2010 USAT Age Group, Sprint and Elite National Championships will be held in Tuscaloosa Sept. 25-26. More than 1,500 athletes are expected for the competition. All events will take place at The Park at Manderson Landing, which is located at Jack Warner Parkway and Hackberry Lane. Jack Warner Parkway is expected to close from 6:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept 25 and from 7:45 a.m. to noon on Sept. 26. A pedestrian bridge will be in place across Jack Warner Parkway at Hackberry Lane to allow access to the park for the event. UA students with 43 to 61 UA earned hours now have an opportunity to purchase one ticket for the Alabama vs. South Carolina game in Columbia, SC. The deadline to order is Tuesday, Sept. 28. Please click here to begin your purchase. Tickets are $55 each and there is a limit of one ticket per student. Students that purchase and receive a ticket may pick up their ticket at the Alabama Ticket Office beginning Wednesday, Sept. 29. The ability to purchase a ticket does not guarantee you receive one. Should orders exceed tickets available, orders will be filled by UA earned credit hour.

A form is available online that allows students to enter or update their preferred name listing. Students can login to myBama, go to the Student tab, click on the Personal Information folder in the Banner Self-Service box, click on the Update Preferred Name link and enter their preferred name.

Students can submit applications for the Miss Corolla Pageant until 5 p.m. on Sept. 24. The program consists of an interview, a beauty walk, an opening number and an onstage question. This year, any student organization can sponsor women. The fee is $115 and $10 for a T-shirt. Contact Corolla editor Kathleen Buccleugh at corollaeditor@sa.ua.edu for an application. The pageant will be held Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Moody Music Building concert hall.

Applications are being accepted for the Parent Ambassador 2011 team. Apply at http://parents.ua.edu. Applications are due in 230 Ferguson Student Center by 5 p.m. on Oct. 8. The Student Government Association’s Ideas to Action committee encourages students to submit their ideas for campus events, programs and reform through the SGA website. The High Tide Club provides an exciting and engaging game-day experience for students attending Alabama home football games. The bottom of the upper deck of the south end zone features reserved seats for High Tide Club members. Benefits include free T-shirts and concession giveaways throughout the season, as well as an opportunity to receive book scholarships. Easier entrance into the stadium will be available at Gate 30. Following are some helpful reminders for students who attend football games at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Be aware of what ticket packages you have on your Action Card. Crossing over is not allowed between the upper deck and the lower bowl of the student section. Arrive early for each game for easier access. More information: “Get in the Game.”

EVENTS, ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

Two career fairs will be held this week at the Bryant Conference Center: general interest and business, Sept. 22, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; and technical and engineering, Sept. 23, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. All majors are welcome. Full-time and internship opportunities are available. Students should bring their Action Cards and copies of their résumés. Dress is business professional. No flip-flops, jeans, shorts, T-shirts or social-event attire allowed. When attending the career fairs, students should adhere to standard UA parking policy. The Women’s Political Initiative lecture series will feature several influential women. Scheduled speakers are Alabama Public Service Commissioner Susan Parker, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m., Ferguson Student Center Theater; and Alabama Sen. Apwonjo and Study Abroad Connections will host a panel of students who have either traveled to or studied in Africa or who are from Africa. The event will be Sept. 28 from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. in 214 Farrah Hall. Panelists will share their overall impressions of the countries they have visited and the cultural differences and similarities they have encountered. Following the panel discussion, audience members will be able to interact with panelists and with faculty who are from Africa or who have a regional focus in Africa. Refreshments will be served. Provost Judy Bonner and Vice Provost Mark Nelson invite faculty, staff and students to bring their lunches and join them for open-ended discussions. The informal meetings will be held Oct. 4 and Nov. 10 at noon in 358 Ferguson Student Center (Sparkman Room).

This year’s Student Health and Wellness Fair will be held Oct. 6 at the University Union plaza and the University Supply Store lobby. The fair will offer physical health services, such as flu vaccines, screenings and health information, as well as activities and information to improve mental, emotional, spiritual, social and environmental areas of health and well-being. The Big Pink Volleyball Tournament, a philanthropic event co-sponsored by University Recreation and the Women’s Resource Center, will be Oct. 10 at noon at the Student Recreation Center. The Ferguson Student Center will host the 2010 Association of College Unions International Region 6 Conference Oct. 22-24. All students are invited to participate. This year’s conference will focus on making connections and building community through technology. The conference will feature keynote speakers Ed Cabellon, Campus Center director at Bridgewater State University, and Stephen Foster Black, director of UA’s Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility. Registration is $150. A one-day registration of $75 is available for graduate and undergraduate students to attend Oct. 23. Register at http://region6.acui.org.
