UA Engineering Student Wins ITE Alabama Scholar Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Nick Woychak, a University of Alabama senior in civil engineering, was recently named the Institute of Transportation Engineers Alabama Section Billy Jones Memorial Traffic Engineering Scholar.

Woychak, originally from Elmira, N.Y., was the only recipient of this award and received the $2,500 scholarship at the Alabama Section ITE Summer Meeting in Gulf Shores.

Founded in 1930, the Institute of Transportation Engineers is a community of transportation professionals, including transportation engineers, transportation planners, consultants, educators and researchers. Through meetings, seminars, publications and a network of 17,000 members, working in more than 90 countries, ITE is the source for expertise, knowledge and ideas for the transportation industry.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s fully accredited College of Engineering has more than 2,700 students and more than 100 faculty. In the last eight years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater scholars, Hollings scholars and Portz scholars.
