Beginning this semester, paper-course evaluations will no longer be collected in class, marking the final stage of the transition to a new, online Student Opinions of Instruction system that began during Fall Semester 2008. Students are invited to complete questionnaires via the online system between now and May 2. Reports for faculty and administrators will be available after May 11. Students, faculty and administrators may access the system by logging into myBama and clicking on the Student Opinions of Instruction box on either the student, faculty or employee tabs. The Student Government Association continues to work with the athletics department to develop the process that will be used for the sale of student football tickets for the 2010 season. Details and dates will be announced in UA Student News when plans are finalized.
Veteran Center readjustment counseling services are now available on campus every Friday. Alisha Stanton, LGSW, readjustment counselor from Birmingham, will provide counseling and readjustment to UA student veterans. If you have served in combat or have experienced sexual harassment or sexual trauma while on active duty in the military, you are eligible for services. Summer housing applications are available on myBama. All students are eligible to live on campus during the summer as long as they are enrolled for the fall. Students do not need to be enrolled in summer classes to live on campus. More information: Housing and Residential Communities at 348-6676.
Registration for the fall Get On Board day has started. Departments can register via e-mail to Alex Karagas. Organizations can register via myBama at SOURCE, which can be accessed by clicking on the “Campus Life” tab. Under their profiles, organizations should click on “Tools” then “Forms.” Priority registration deadline is May 7 at 4:45 p.m., with cost being $15 per organization and $20 per department. The official deadline is Aug. 20 at 4:45 p.m., with cost being $20 per organization and $25 per department. Payment must be made at 355 Ferguson Student Center (Student Involvement and Leadership). EVENTS, ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT
The Women’s Resource Center will host the annual Take Back the Night march and rally April 20 at 6 p.m. at the Crimson Promenade to support the end of violence against women. Click here for more information.
Sigma Delta Tau has two upcoming events. On April 22 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., members will distribute fliers outside of Five Guys at Midtown Village. On April 26 and 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., members will sell pinwheels for $1 each. The pinwheels will be displayed in a case in the Ferguson Student Center. The Alabama Forensic Council will hold open auditions for new members on Thursday, April 22, from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday, April 23, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in 226 Reese Phifer Hall. Students can register for an audition in 210-A Reese Phifer Hall by April 22. For the audition, students should be prepared to present a reading of literature or make a speech or presentation they have done in the past. More information: Dr. Frank Thompson at 348-8077.
The annual BFA Juried Exhibition in UA’s department of art and art history is open through April 30. The public is also invited to a reception for the exhibitors on April 23 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Harrison Galleries, 2315 University Blvd., downtown Tuscaloosa. The UA American Society of Civil Engineers concrete-canoe team has qualified to participate in the 2010 National Concrete Canoe Competition in California and is conducting a fundraiser to fund a portion of the trip. Members will accept donations for a chance to win an Apple iPad until April 23 at the Ferguson Student Center near the TV lounge from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. More information: Kiran Patel.
The Slash Pine Poetry Festival will be April 23-24. Events will take place at the Kentuck Arts Center courtyard, UA’s Woods Quad, Little Willie’s, the historic Northport Depot and the Bama Theatre. The festival includes national, regional and local writers. More information: Natalie Latta.
The Relay for Life survivors luncheon will be April 24 at noon at the Student Recreation Center in the social activity room. The Relay for Life will follow at the Soccer Stadium, beginning with a survivor’s lap. All cancer survivors may bring a guest. More information: Andres Pena at 979-470-0280.
The Society of Physics Students will host a chess tournament on April 24 outside Gallalee Hall on the side facing the Quad. Free play will start at 10 a.m., and the tournament will begin at 11 a.m. Pre-registration is $5. Registration on the day of the event is $10. The Documenting Justice Film Screening will be held April 27 at 7 p.m. at the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa. The film screening is the culmination of a year’s work by non-film students.
