Beginning with Spring Semester 2010 early registration, all students will be required to update or confirm address, phone and emergency-contact information. This is necessary to ensure that the University has accurate, up-to-date information in case a need should arise. When you first go to either the “Add or Drop Classes” form or the “Look up Classes” form under “Registration Tools” at mybama.ua.edu, you will be redirected to the forms, which need to be updated or confirmed. You will then click the “Continue to Registration” button to proceed.

The SGA encourages everyone to wear pink on Oct. 28 in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
A segment of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace for the Next Generation is being offered free to UA students on Oct. 28 at noon in 321 Lloyd Hall. The lesson will be “Relating with Money.” More information: msharcrow@cchs.ua.edu.
The “How to Pay for College” forum will be held on Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library. The event is co-hosted by the SGA and Collegiate Politicians. Crimson Gamers will host a console gaming night and Halloween party on Oct. 30, 6–10 p.m., in the Ferguson Center Heritage Room. Participants can play video games, eat free food and compete in a costume contest. More information: Taylor Anderson.
The HopeLine wireless-phone-recycling drive ends Oct. 31. Donating your old wireless phone to HopeLine gives survivors of domestic violence the chance to make a lifesaving call. Drop-off locations are the Women’s Resource Center on the third floor of Russell Hall, the women’s studies department at 104 Manly Hall, the dean of students office at 230 Ferguson Center, Tutwiler Hall and Rose Towers. A Halloween Half-Hundred Fundraising Celebration in support of the UA Arboretum will be held on Oct. 31 at the Arboretum. Local ultrarunner Nick Sella will run 50 miles in one day. At the conclusion of the run, the celebration will begin at 4 p.m. with live music, food and children’s activities. Please wear your costumes. Volunteers are needed to work the children’s activities. The Afro-American Gospel Choir Parents Appreciation Concert will be Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Ballroom. This event is open to the public. More information: Jonathan Simon.
Up ‘til Dawn, a benefit for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, will be Nov. 4 in the East Dining Room of the Ferguson Center. Up ‘til Dawn is a nationwide collegiate letter-sending event. Participants will bring in addresses from individuals they think would be willing to donate and send the pre-typed letters provided by St. Jude. All pre-registered participants will receive a free T-shirt, and each participant writing 35 letters or more will be given the opportunity to win a Nintendo Wii. More information: Amanda Burton.
Coldstone Creamery on the Strip will host a fundraiser benefitting the UA Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America on Nov. 3. All sales that night will benefit PRSSA. More information: Amanda Burton.
My Hair My Expression Conference, a hair and fashion exhibit, will be Nov. 4–5 in the Ferguson Center. The event begins with an informational fair on Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. and ends with the My Hair My Expression Exhibition Show on Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature participants and sponsors from across the state. Blackhawk helicopters will transport Army ROTC cadets to training. Five Blackhawk helicopters are scheduled to land on the recreation fields behind the UA Recreation Center Friday, Oct. 30, at 8 a.m. and again at 11 a.m. to transport about 100 UA Army ROTC cadets to a training exercise at Camp McClellan (formerly Fort McClellan) near Anniston. Three helicopters will also be on the recreation fields Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 3-5 p.m. to allow the student cadets to practice safety and loading procedures before Friday’s flight. The northern section of the recreation fields will be off limits to unauthorized personnel during the periods when the helicopters are landing and taking off and any other periods identified by military or police personnel. The UA Police Department and the Tuscaloosa Fire Department will be present.

The Office of Information Technology will be moving several network servers behind the firewall on Nov. 3 at 6 a.m. You should not see any effect from this move or experience any change in service. The move is being made so that specific types of network traffic necessary for normal business operation will be allowed through the firewall while menacing traffic is stopped. This effort will better protect our campus network from external attacks. If you experience any connectivity or login issues on the morning of Nov. 3, please call the HelpDesk at 348-4357.
The University Supply Store wants to buy your old clickers. You may take your old clicker to the buy-back window at the Ferguson Student Center or Tutwiler Hall locations of the SUPe Store and get $10 in return. Any student who turns in an old EInstruction clicker is eligible to participate. The deadline is March 31, 2010.
