Alternative parking is available on game-day weekends for students living in the Tutwiler Hall area. Some parking areas near Tutwiler Hall and the 31 spaces on Colonial Drive, south of Eighth Street, must be vacated by 5 p.m. Friday on game-day weekends. Alternative student parking is available in the following parking lots: Barnwell, Parham, Osband, Burke, Hayden-Harris, Farrah, the Aquatics Center and the lot at the corner of Bryant Drive and Hackberry Lane. Click here for a map of these areas. If all of these parking options are full, students should go to the Campus Drive Deck, which is free for students after 5 p.m. on Friday. From the Campus Drive Deck, Crimson Ride will take students back to Tutwiler. For later hours, the 348-RIDE express or 348-RIDE will provide service to Tutwiler.

Students who have split football-ticket packages can find out information about their packages at My Football Ticket. Go to http://actcard.ua.edu/, click on the My Tickets link, click on the My Football Ticket Tab and log in. Each Sunday before a home football game, My Football Ticket is refreshed with the current week’s information. You can confirm you are holding a ticket or join the list of students who would like to receive a donated ticket. Also remember, a specific student can transfer a ticket privilege to you also on this site.

Fans attending events on the Quad prior to each home football game are encouraged to drop off their game-day recyclables at a tent east of the Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library. Plastic, aluminum and cardboard will be accepted at the tent, staffed by employees from UA’s logistics and support services department. UA employees and SGA volunteers will also hand out recycling bags to individual groups tailgating on the Quad so that cardboard, aluminum cans, plastic cups, food wrappers and other types of plastics, including ice bags, can be recycled.

The UA collegiate license tag is available at local county license offices. Both numbered tags and personalized tags are available; the cost of either one is $50 above the normal tag cost. Collegiate license tags may be purchased at any time, regardless of the individual’s tag renewal month. UA’s National Alumni Association raised more than $3 million through the car tag program in the 2007-2008 fiscal year—the most of any university in the state. Funds raised through the statewide program are used for scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students. For more information on UA’s “Ride with the Tide” program, go to http://alumni.ua.edu, or call the UA Alumni Affairs office at 348-5963.

The Student Government Association announces the launch of 348-Ride Express. The 348-Ride Express is a shuttle bus that will continuously loop the campus on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. The estimated maximum wait time is 8–10 minutes. More information: www.crimsonride.ua.edu or www.sga.ua.edu.

Voter registration for out-of-state students. The next general election is Nov. 3. Even though Alabama will not hold a general election in 2009, several states will hold gubernatorial elections and special elections. The deadline for voter registration for the upcoming November elections varies from state to state, but it typically is in early October. If you reside in a state other than Alabama, contact your state or local election officials for election and voter registration information. You can also visit the Web site of the Election Assistance Commission at http://www.eac.gov/index_html1 to review the federal postcard form for voter registration.

New emergency notification system: UA Alerts. To keep you better informed if severe weather or an emergency occurs on campus, the University has installed UA Alerts, a technology tool that sends voice calls and text messages to your cell phone and e-mails to your myBama account. In an emergency, an e-mail will be sent to your myBama account. Please make sure that your contact information on myBama is updated. If you do not check your myBama e-mail account, then you need to turn on e-mail forwarding. You can find directions for doing this under the Student tab on myBama.
