Zipcar comes to UA

…Now, students who do not have cars can make their way off campus with Zipcar, an international car-sharing service. The University kicked off its new partnership with Zipcar, Wednesday, which will make cars available for students to drive on or off campus…Ronnie Robertson, UA director of transportation…“Now, I think we’ve completed a full transportation circle,” Robertson said. “We have the Crimson Ride, 348-RIDE through the night, and now we have Zipcar if students need to get off campus.” Six Zipcars will be available to students and can be found in the parking lot between Rose Towers and Riverside, the parking lot between Paty Hall and Blount Hall and in front of Tutwiler Hall…

Local home-building permits fall in July

…A report from the Alabama Center for Real Estate showed 63 building permits for single-family homes issued in July. That’s a 39.4 percent drop from the 106 permits issued in July 2008.

Altria revamps marketing in light of new regulations

Dozier Bell lectures on art at Gorgas

…Bell gave audiences a closer look at her art through a lecture Wednesday at Gorgas Library…Apart from the collection in the Sarah Moody Gallery, Bell also showed a set of photomontages of pictures that had an effect on her growing up. The photos were made up of the ocean, and bedroom scenes…The works of Bell have been on display in Sarah Moody Gallery of Art on campus since July 31 and will be on display until Sept. 4.
