TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Society of Automotive Engineers collegiate chapter is the recipient of the 2009 Honeywell Outstanding Branch Award.
The chapter will be presented with a plaque and $600 at the SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit, Mich., April 20-23. This is the second consecutive year UA’s SAE has received this award.
The award recognizes SAE collegiate branches for exemplary performance in the areas of technical meetings, networking opportunities, Collegiate Design SeriesTM competitions, membership and recruitment, and community service programs.
The Society of Automotive Engineers is a non-profit engineering and scientific organization dedicated to the advancement of mobility technology to better serve humanity. The organization focuses on standards development and promotes the testing, measurement and design of automobiles and their components.
In 1837, UA became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering, with about 2,300 students and more than 100 faculty, is one of the three oldest continuously operating engineering programs in the country and has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
