Crosswalk to be Closed
The crosswalk at Hackberry Lane and Campus Drive will be closed this week due to construction between the new Science and Engineering building and the Kilgore House. From this point forward, there will no longer be access between the new Science and Engineering building and the Rogers Library/Kilgore House. Pedestrians will need to utilize the crosswalk at Margaret Drive to access campus.

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Alabama in Ghana Summer Abroad will be May 28-June 12. For the sixth consecutive year, the Alabama in Ghana Program is enrolling students for the summer 2009 trip. This is a two-week, six-credit hour experiential course open to all majors. More information: http://bama.ua.edu/~ghana-al/photo.html.

NA/DO grade information. Do you need to have a DO grade converted to a W, or an NA grade converted to a drop/delete? If so, send an e-mail to registrar@ua.edu or stop by the Office of the University Registrar, 206 Student Services Center.

Applications for the Autherine Lucy Foster Award are now available for students and faculty. This award recognizes one student or faculty member who has made a significant contribution to UA through leadership and service to the minority community. More information: e-mail the Black Student Union.

SGA SPIRIT Scholarship applications are now available. Applications may be found in the SGA office in the Ferguson Center. Applications are due March 27 at 4:45 p.m. More information: Mary Lawhorn at 348-8321.

Medical school applicant evaluations with Dr. Nathan Smith, assistant dean for admissions at UAB School of Medicine, will be March 25 from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Any student interested in the health field may participate. A sign-up list will be available in Chris Hutt’s office in 103 Wilson Hall. Smith will discuss “what makes a good medical school candidate” and give advice on admissions on March 24 at 7 p.m. in 30 ten Hoor at the AED meeting. More information: Chris Hutt at 348-5902. EVENTS, ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

The 30-Day Tobacco-Free Challenge Kickoff will be March 31 at noon in the Ferguson Center Theater. Dr. Alan Blum will give a presentation titled “A funny thing happened on the way to quit tobacco.” If you have been thinking about giving up tobacco use, now is the time. Don’t smoke? Then encourage your friends to kick the habit. This event is open to all faculty, staff and students. More information: Office of Health Promotion and Wellness at 348-0077.

The Association of Child Life will host a car wash March 28 from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. in the Child Development Research Center parking lot. Donations of $5 are requested for each car that is washed. All proceeds will benefit Relay for Life. More information: Leslie Mattinson.

The Creative Campus Assembly Arts Ambassadors will host “UNBOUND,” which is affiliated with The Kennedy Center’s Very Special Artists Show, on March 26. The art show, which will consist of works created by UA students and individuals within the community, will open at 6 p.m. at Maxwell Hall. Ricky Trione, a renowned blind Alabama artist, will be displaying original pieces, created for this show. The University Supply Store will hold its Graduation Celebration Tuesday-Thursday, March 24-26 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. each day in the Ferguson Center Ballroom. Graduating students may place orders for class rings, graduation announcements, regalia and diploma frames and take cap and gown portraits. Representatives from various campus offices will be available to provide assistance. Class rings may be ordered Friday, March 27 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Refreshments, including lunch, will be served at the event and a number of door prizes will be awarded. Five different colleges from UA are participating in the Holt Community Partnership Festival on March 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the event, which will highlight ways Tuscaloosa residents can get involved in the community.

Capstone International Center (CIC) will have Coffee Hour Friday, March 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in 121 B.B. Comer Hall. The event will be sponsored by University Libraries.

The UA Libraries is sponsoring a Book Collecting Contest for UA students. The contest will showcase the interests and changing book-collecting habits of students in the 21st century. Contest entry forms and rules can be picked up at Gorgas, Bruno, Rodgers, McLure or Hoole libraries or downloaded from the UA Libraries Web site at www.lib.ua.edu/mystuff.
