Oliver Elected SGA President at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Steven Oliver of Hendersonville, Tenn., a junior at The University of Alabama majoring in biology, was elected president of the Student Government Association for the 2009-2010 term.

Some 14,469 total votes were cast in the election that was held through online voting March 3-4.

Oliver received 7,323 votes to defeat challenger Kendra Key, a junior from Tuscaloosa majoring in political science, who received 7,062 votes.

Other executive officers elected included:

Executive vice president – Meg McCrummen of Mobile

Executive secretary – Katie Breaseale of Oneonta

Vice president for academic affairs – Tyler Reed of Tuscaloosa

Vice president for external affairs – James Fowler of Madison

Vice president for financial affairs – Chris Vinson of Jacksons Gap

Vice president for student affairs – Tyler Valeska of Montgomery

In addition, students supported a constitutional amendment that would simplify the process of filling vacancies in the SGA Senate with 11,691 students (some 85 percent) voting in support of the amendment.
