TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Neely J. Portera has been named director of development for the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama.

In this role, Portera will lead the College’s fund-raising efforts and cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts to the College. She held a similar position at UA’s School of Social Work, where she served as director of advancement.
“Neely’s experience at the University and her knowledge of our alumni and friends will serve the College well,” said Dr. Loy Singleton, dean of the College of Communication and Information Sciences. “She is truly an outstanding individual, and will be instrumental in our continued growth and success.”
Before serving the School of Social Work, she was manager of chapter development and special events for The University of Alabama National Alumni Association.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the College.
Her community affiliations include the South Dallas County Historic Preservation Society, Kentuck Arts Festival, Junior League of Tuscaloosa, Delta Delta Delta Alumnae Association and advisor for the Delta Mu Chapter of Delta Delta Delta.
The UA College of Communication and Information Sciences is among the largest and most prestigious communication colleges in the nation. The College consistently is ranked among the top 10 in number of doctoral degrees awarded and in many of its research programs.
