UA’s PR Program Finalist for Education Program of Year by PRWeek Magazine

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s public relations program is one of the top five finalists for the PR Education Program of the Year by PRWeek magazine.

Dr. Bruce Berger, professor and chair of the advertising and public relations department, submitted the entry, providing details of the quality of internships, professional involvement, academic papers or studies, program goals and achievements and the use of new media.

“This is the first year PRWeek had a PR education category,” Berger said. “We’re proud of this distinction as one of the top PR programs, and we’re in very good company.”

PRWeek provides timely news, reviews, profiles, techniques and ground-breaking research for practitioners. The magazine launched the PRWeek Awards to showcase and recognize the best practices in the PR industry. The 2009 gala dinner will be held Thursday, March 5 in New York City.

UA’s public relations program, with more than 600 students, is the largest undergraduate degree program in the College of Communication and Information Sciences. The program is the 12th in the nation to be reviewed and certified by PRSA.
