EVENTS, ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

SGA elections are next week. Polls will be open Tuesday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 4. To vote, go online at myBama.ua.edu.

The SGA Presidential Debate will be March 2 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Theatre. Students may submit questions to be asked at the debate. All students asking questions must submit their name. Students also will have the option of asking their questions at the debate. More information: Walker Donaldson.

Spring Break Safety Campaign. Are you still trying to lose that last five pounds before spring break? If so, stop and be happy with your body just as it is right now. Celebrate what you love about yourself and your body and join us for UA’s 2009 Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Check out events here.

Fashion Rocks and So Does My Body Fashion Show will be Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Ballroom. This fashion show with more than 40 student models promotes a healthy body image and the prevention of eating disorders. Unscripted, an interactive peer theatre group at UA, also will perform. The first 50 people will receive a free T-shirt. More information: Lori Greene, MS, RD at 348-0205.

Kappa Delta’s 26th Annual Shamrock Run for RISE and Crossing Points will be Feb. 28. The run will begin at the Gene Stallings RISE Center. Check-in and late registration will be at 9 a.m. The race will begin at 10 a.m. The registration fee is $20, with proceeds benefiting the RISE Center and Crossing Points. T-shirts will be available only to those who register prior to race day and who request them. Awards will be given to the first, second and third place finishers. More information: Amanda Rucker.

State Treasurer Kay Ivey will be speaking March 3 at 6 p.m. in Bibb Graves Auditorium. The Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity has named Ivey the inaugural recipient of the Excellency in Business and Public Service Award. More information: Ryan Sprinkle.

The premier screening of “The Hero Next Door” will be March 3 at 5 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library. “The Hero Next Door” trains and supports young people to make a movie about someone in their community who has made a difference through an act of courage or kindness. Dinner and Sculpture Demonstration. Honors College and Housing and Residential Communities will host a dinner and sculpture demonstration featuring artist Charlie Lucas, also known as the “Tin Man,” Tuesday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Grand Gallery at Smith Hall.

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

The Career Center is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 Peer Advisors. This leadership program is designed to educate and train undergraduate students on career-related topics so they can provide assistance to their peers. The deadline to apply is March 11. STUDENT AFFAIRS

Student Football Ticket Survey. The information collected from this survey will be presented to the UA Ticket Office and the SGA. The results will have a direct impact on the way student football tickets are allocated at UA.

The SGA Student Judicial Board is now accepting applications for the 2009–2010 Board. The board is seeking dependable, punctual, fair-minded undergraduate, graduate and law students. The Board adjudicates cases arising from student non-academic misconduct and parking violations. All applicants must be available during fall and spring semesters to attend Judicial Board every Tuesday at 6 p.m. Applications can be found on the SGA Web site. They are due Feb. 24. The Off-campus Housing Fair will be Feb. 25 from 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. on the main floor of Ferguson Center. Stop by and speak with a variety of rental property representatives from the local area. More information: Julie Elmore at 348-9647.

‘Pulse-Check Lunch with the Provost and Vice President for Student Affairs. Faculty, staff and students are invited to bring their own lunch and join Dr. Judy Bonner, provost, and Dr. Mark Nelson, vice president for student affairs, for open-ended discussions regarding campus issues on Feb. 27 at noon in 305 Ferguson. These meetings are a time for informal conversation with Bonner and Nelson regarding issues related to the UA campus.
