Ground broken for new Jewish temple

The congregation of Temple Emanu-El grabbed shovels and tapped open the ground at its new site on Ninth Street and Fourth Avenue at its groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday.
Rabbi Steven Jacobs said that bringing the congregation so close to the University of Alabama will allow the congregation to work closely with Hillel, the Jewish student center…Temple Emanu-El sold its property on Skyland Boulevard in early 2007…The university then invited the congregation to move onto its campus, and the UA System board of trustees approved the construction of the synagogue to be built next to the new Hillel House. UA President Robert Witt said part of bringing the best students to UA is being able to ensure that their faith and values are also a part of their lives while they’re on campus. ‘The presence of this temple will allow us to be able to say to parents that not only will their students receive an education, but they will be able to remain grounded in their faith, culture and tradition,’ he said at the ceremony…

Suzanne Henson, an assistant professor in the University of Alabama’s Department of Human Nutrition and Hospitality Management, the outer aisles of the grocery store are the best place to start shopping because the foods are more natural…’Most of us only focus on the inner aisles, and that’s where some of the problems are,’ Henson said. ‘Whenever you go from the outer edge where the perishable foods are to the inner aisles, the trade-off is more sodium, more fat and more calories.’…
Hyundai gets Genesis ’24’ exposure

…Lance Kinney, an advertising professor at the University of Alabama who specializes in event-based advertising, said such deals often are a greater value than traditional advertisements. “Every time that show, ’24’ is seen, Hyundai is seen,” he said. “So many brands are pursuing it because it pays off.” Hyundai probably had an easier time convincing the series to feature its popular new product, which won the 2009 North American Car of the Year Award, than it would have with one of its more economical models or a minivan, Kinney said…
