Student group gives tours of UA to middle school students

The Student group “Stepping Stones” is using programs like the Hip Hop Summit to tune in middle school students to art, higher education and possibly attending the University…“This program was created to bring those kids to the University of Alabama, biannually starting in middle school, and to visit all the aspects of the college.” The students visited all of the individual colleges, met members of greek organizations and toured the Ferguson Center game room. Every Stepping Stones has a theme, such as UA history, engineering or, last semester, politics. This week’s theme was art, and students were given a demonstration on how to stage a Shakespearean sword fight and toured the Paul R. Jones art collection in Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library…

Civil Law Clinic offers free legal advice

…the SGA and the University of Alabama Law School have worked to give students the University of Alabama Civil Law Clinic. The Civil Law Clinic provides students and the Tuscaloosa community with free legal counseling, advice and representation. Anne Hornsby, director of the clinic, said the services they provide have been around for 35 years, although it has not always been free to students. Hornsby said years ago the SGA and the University decided to contribute money to the clinic each year, and in exchange they provide free legal counseling and representation…
Annual Harold Basowitz memorial lecture tonight

Carver, an expert on personality and individual differences will discuss, “Two Layers of the Mind: Serotonergic Function, and What Impulsive Aggression and Depression have in Common.” This lecture is held annually in memory of Harold Basowitz, who received his undergraduate degree from the University in 1947.
