Donate your unused football tickets and win prizes! Students who donate will have a chance to win one of these great prizes: A-Day tickets in the Zone, a football autographed by Coach Nick Saban and UA bowl game tickets.

Get on board the Entertainment Bus Route. Crimson Ride buses will service the downtown area Thursday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m.–3 a.m. and Fridays from 10 p.m.–4 a.m. Cost is $2 (Bama Cash only) one way. UA students are allowed to bring up to two guests for whom they are responsible. Alcohol is not allowed on the bus.

UA Organic Community Garden Initiative seeks your input. Students and faculty will be able to grow their own food, display artwork, read poetry, perform music, take cooking classes, have entrepreneurial opportunities and have additional space for engineering and science experiments while learning about the beauty and nutritional value of homegrown food. Bama Dining Survey offers opportunity to win an Apple® iPod Touch! Bama Dining is conducting a survey to better understand your campus lifestyle and dining preferences. Grad School Night at the Rec will be Oct. 17 from 7-11 p.m. University Recreation and Graduate Student Services are co-sponsoring this event. Donations to the Iron Bowl Challenge Blood Drive will be accepted through Oct. 17 at Morgan Hall, Bryant Hall and on Sorority Row. Join the SGA and LifeSouth as we compete against Auburn to donate the most blood. More information: Mike Dodson.

YoUA Decide: A Look at the Media’s Role in the 2008 Election. The Capstone Association of Black Journalists and the Lambda Zeta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will present a panel discussion concerning the media’s influence during the current political election on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in 210 Bidgood. October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and the Office of Information Technology wants you to remember that cyber safety is personal. OIT has provided an informational Web site and has scheduled a week of speakers to provide cyber safety tips. Door prizes will be awarded at events.

Creative Campus has secured special discounts to the Kentuck Festival of the Arts. UA students, families and friends can receive up to 50 percent off admission prices. A Miss UA Informational Meeting will be held Oct. 19 from 3–5 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Miss UA receives a full tuition scholarship, two book scholarships and numerous other gifts for her year of service to the University. The Miss UA program is a preliminary contest for the Miss Alabama pageant and the Miss America program. More information: Kacey White.

Dr. Cornel West, best-selling author of Race Matters, will give the Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Lecture on “Ethics and Morality” Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in Morgan Auditorium. Information: 348-7007.

President F.W. de Klerk, the Nobel Peace Prize winner who helped bring majority rule to South Africa, will speak at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at the Bryant Conference Center. The lecture, titled “Bridging the Gap: Globalization Without Isolation,” is free and open to the public.

U.S. Senate Candidate Vivian D. Figures will speak Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. in the Anderson Room. She will be talking about education, the economy and the new face of politics. More information: Kandice Harris.

The annual Up ‘til Dawn Letter Fundraiser will be held Oct. 21 from 4-9 p.m. at the Ferguson Center. This event raises money and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The letters are pre-made from the hospital asking for a donation. You simply need to bring a list of 50 names and addresses. Free food and door prizes will be provided. National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week will be Oct. 20–24. The week promotes personal responsibility among students. UA will host several events concerning alcohol safety throughout the week, as well as communicate messages on campus focusing on the importance of designated drivers and the dangers of binge drinking. The Save-a-Life Tour will be on campus Oct. 22 in the Ferguson Center with a drunk driving simulator. More information: click here.

The Graduation Celebration will be held Oct. 21 and 22 in the Ferguson Center Ballroom. You will be able to order official rings, personalized graduation announcements, caps and gowns and diploma frames. Food and door prizes will be available. A representative from Stacy Jones Photography will be present to take cap and gown portraits. In addition, representatives from the Offices of Academic Records, Student Financial Services, Loan Receivables, the Career Center and other student services will be on hand to answer questions. The Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigil will be held Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Denny Chimes. This annual event recognizes victims of dating and domestic violence. Tahiera Monique Brown, author of the book “Annihilator of Innocence,” will be the keynote speaker. More information: Stacy Panitch.

St. Francis Catholic Student Center will host SEARCH, a retreat for any student needing a weekend to relax and get away from school stress, Oct. 24–26. More information: http://www.stfrancisuofa.com/search.htm.

A SHARP self-defense class will be offered Oct. 27 and 28 from 6–10 p.m. This free eight-hour course is open to all UA women. Space is limited. More information: Women’s Resource Center at 348-5040.

The UA Student Health Fair will be held Oct. 29 from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Ferguson Center Plaza. Free food, games, crafts and music will be provided. Flu shots will be available to students at a minimum cost. More information: click here.
