ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

The management and marketing department’s Annual Opportunities Fair will be held Oct. 15–17 in the Ferguson Center. Four seminars will be offered with Fortune 500 companies about the secrets to a career in sales and other networking opportunities. Students can register and upload their resumes by clicking here. Grad School Night at the Rec will be Oct. 17 from 7–11 p.m. University Recreation and Graduate Student Services are partnering to co-sponsor this family-friendly night of games, free food, door prizes and recreational activity. 24-hour library access is now available at Rodgers Library. The library will remain open from Sunday at 1 p.m. until Friday at 2 a.m. After midnight, only students, faculty and staff are allowed to enter and remain inside the building. All individuals must have a valid ACTion card with proximity card technology.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

Ring Week. Representatives from Balfour will be in front of the SUPe Store each day this week from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Students and alumni are invited to stop by the table to see the rings, have their fingers sized and ask questions about the Official Ring program. Students also can register to win prizes and get free T-shirts while supplies last. More information: Peter Pierre at 348-8847.

Get on board the entertainment bus route. Crimson Ride buses will service the downtown area Thursday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m.–3 a.m. and Fridays from 10 p.m.–4 a.m. Cost is $2 (Bama Cash only) one way. UA students are allowed to bring up to two guests for whom they are responsible. Alcohol is not allowed on the bus.

Donate your unused football tickets and win prizes! Those who donate will have a chance to win one of these great prizes: A-Day tickets in the Zone, a football autographed by Coach Nick Saban and UA bowl game tickets. If you are not going to the game, please do not let your ticket go to waste. Let your fellow students share the tradition.

A limited number of South ten Hoor reserved parking permits ($350) are for sale or exchange while supplies last. Commuter West or Commuter Northeast permits will not be available for sale or exchange this semester. The schedule for purchasing or exchanging your current commuter permit for a South ten Hoor reserved permit is as follows: Oct. 6, graduate students/seniors only; Oct. 7, juniors only; Oct. 8, sophomores only; Oct. 9, freshmen only. EVENTS, ARTS, & CULTURE

Interested in Study Abroad? Come to the premier showing of “EuroTrip 2008” on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in 205 Gorgas. This is a promotional study abroad film made by 16 UA students this summer. These students spent a month touring five European nations while making this film. During this event, information will be provided about the many opportunities Capstone International has to offer. In honor of Hispanic Latino Heritage Month, Walkout, a movie and discussion, will be held Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. in Ferguson Theatre. Walkout is a true story about Mexican-Americans’ fight against academic prejudices in the height of the national civil-rights movement. Sponsors are the Women’s Resource Center, Housing and Residential Communities and Crossroads Community Center. Admission is free. More information: Stacy Panitch at 348-5040.

The department of theatre and dance presents the student choreographed “Dance Alabama!” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 through Thursday, Oct. 2 and at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 in Morgan Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for students and can be bought at the box office in Rowand-Johnson Hall from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, by visiting www.crimsonartstickets.com or by calling 348-3400.

The UA Green Fair will showcase faculty research and information about courses that confront issues surrounding global warming on Oct. 2 from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at Ferguson Plaza. An alternative transportation exhibit will be on display, and Creative Campus will host an art contest and auction featuring works that reflect an appreciation for nature, confront devastation of the planet or make use of recycled materials. Learn Salsa with live music at Tiempo de Salsa on Oct. 3 at 8:30 p.m. at the Highlands Activity Center. Other forms of Latin dance will be taught as well. More information: Jacob Summers at 310-6702.

Crimson Gamers miniLan will be held Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. in 300 Ferguson Center. This computer and console gaming party will feature Call of Duty 4, Team Fortress 2, CS: Source and other games. Registration is limited to 16-24 gamers so act fast if you’re interested. More information: Taylor Anderson.

C&IA/ASSCA and United Blood Drive will be taking blood donations on Oct. 8 in front of Reese Phifer. Stop and think — when you give blood you are saving a life. More information: Shelby Chandler at 348-8597.

UA Outdoor Recreation will offer an Ellicott Backpacking/Yoga trip Oct. 9–12 in Ellicott Rock Wilderness. Take the weekend to go backpack in the great rock wilderness of North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina mountains. A pre-trip meeting will be held Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. The deadline to register is Oct. 8. The fee is $80. More information: UAOR Office at 348-7045.

The Miss Corolla Pageant will be held Nov. 14. All female UA students are eligible to compete. The winner will receive a $150 book scholarship from the SUPe Store and more.
