ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

The College of Communication and Information Sciences’ 13th Annual Communications Career Fair will be held Sept. 25 from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Ballroom. Workshops also will be offered. The Sports Communication workshop will feature professionals engaged in a variety of aspects of sports communication: event planners, sports information specialists and writers. STUDENT AFFAIRS

The American Marketing Association is accepting applications for membership. AMA is a student-run organization open to undergraduate and graduate students from all majors. Applications are available online and at 124 Bidgood. More information: Mallory Cooley at 835-4646.

SUPe Store locations closed for inventory. The following locations will be closed on the following dates: Tutwiler Hall, Bryant Museum and the School of Law, Sept. 26-28; Ferguson Center, Sept. 27 and 28. Don’t have tickets to the home football games? Need extra cash? Become an Environmental Ambassador! Ambassadors will work to increase the visibility of the stadium’s new recycling program by wearing the provided T-shirt and monitoring recycling receptacles to eliminate contaminants. Workers will be paid $7 an hour and be expected to work for five hours. Applications can be found in the SGA office (230 Ferguson Center) or on the SGA Web site. EVENTS, ARTS, & CULTURE

In celebration of Hispanic Latino Heritage Month, the Holy Spirit Folk Dancers will perform Sept. 25 at 4:30 p.m. at the Crossroads Lounge, 232 Ferguson Center. The event is sponsored by Crossroads Community Center. For a calendar of events for the month, visit www.crossroads.ua.edu.

Students are invited to sign up for a book discussion on Cornel West’s “Race Matters” or “Democracy Matters” ahead of Dr. West’s visit to campus on Oct. 16. All students who register for the discussion will receive a free book. Discussions will be lead by law professor Bryan Fair, Dr. Ross Bryan or Dr. Melanie Miller and will take place in the Starbucks at Ferguson Center. The dates for the discussions are Oct. 13-15 at 6 p.m. Registration tables will be set up in Ferguson Center on Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The discussions are sponsored by the Ferguson Center and Housing and Residential Communities. Capstone International Center invites you to Capstone Coffee Hour Friday, Sept. 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in 121 B.B. Comer Hall. Coffee Hour will be sponsored by the Career Center.

Come experience a Greener Way for UA by seeing what the University has to offer nature enthusiasts of all disciplines on Oct. 2 from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at Ferguson Plaza. The UA Green Fair will showcase faculty research and information about courses that confront issues surrounding global warming. An alternative transportation exhibit will be on display. Submissions are now being accepted for an Art Contest & Auction hosted by Creative Campus and featuring works that reflect an appreciation for nature, confront devastation of the planet, or make use of recycled materials. C&IA/ASSCA and United Blood Services will be taking blood donations on Oct. 8 in front of Reese Phifer. Stop and think — when you give blood you are saving a life. More information: Shelby Chandler at 348-8597.

Grad School Night at the Rec will be Oct. 17 from 7–11 p.m. University Recreation and Graduate Student Services are partnering to co-sponsor this event. Interested in study abroad? Come to the premier showing of “EuroTrip 2008” on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in 205 Gorgas. This is a promotional study abroad film made by 16 UA students this summer. The students spent a month touring five European nations while making the film. During this event, information will be provided about the many opportunities Capstone International has to offer. The Miss Corolla Pageant will be held Nov. 14. All female UA students are eligible to compete. The queen will receive a $150 book scholarship from the SUPe Store and more. Marr’s Field Journal, UA’s undergraduate literary and arts magazine, is now accepting submissions for its spring issue. MFJ accepts poetry, prose, art, photography and original music compositions.
