A-Day anticipation: Scrimmage gets game-day treatment after last year’s record attendance
Tuscaloosa News – April 10
…’We usually have 130,000 people on campus for a fall football game,’ said university spokeswoman Gina Johnson. ‘So that’s how we’re planning [for A-Day].’…Johnson said CrimsonRide will run 17 buses to shuttle fans from the eastern parking lots (those near the Rec Center, the soccer field and the Child Development Center) to the stadium in time for kickoff. Last year, there was no CrimsonRide service. Also, all the stadium gates will be open two hours before kickoff. Last year, fans could enter through only a few gates. UA has added staff to help manage the throngs, and Tuscaloosa Police Chief Ken Swindle said about 140 officers will be on the street helping maintain safety and traffic flow…Doug Walker, spokesman for the UA athletic department, said the department has also made changes from previous A-Day plans…Walker said he’d seen no definitive plan if the stadium is filled beyond capacity. He said he would rely on fans to keep a good attitude, if that happens. ‘Hopefully, it’s a situation our fans are familiar with and comfortable with and they won’t present any obstacles,’ Walker said. ‘They’ve always been great and we wouldn’t expect anything less.’

UA student tickets to go paperless
Tuscaloosa News – April 10
The University of Alabama is switching to electronic football tickets for students, which school officials hope will ease long lines and help preserve the integrity of a student section. The change will be in place for the upcoming season. UA spokeswoman Cathy Andreen said only student tickets will be paperless…Students currently enrolled may purchase one student season ticket package, which includes seven home games for the upcoming season, for $35. Instead of picking up season tickets in August, students will swipe their UA Action Card at the student gate to enter Bryant-Denny Stadium. Students will be allowed to give or sell their tickets to other active students who also have an Action Card. To do so, they’ll need to make an online transfer to the other student’s account…

Opinion: Paperless is bliss
Crimson White – April 10
…While the details of the plan are still being worked out, the upcoming football season should be paper-free for UA students. It’s a great idea, one that should have been implemented as soon as technology permitted. It will simplify things at stadium gates because the old process of presenting both ticket and ACTion card will be simplified to ACTion card only, so that should speed up the sometimes painfully slow process of getting into Bryant-Denny Stadium on game days…
