UA law school, other state grad programs rank on magazine list

The University of Alabama School of Law ranks No. 32 among all law schools nationwide in the 2009 rankings of graduate schools issued Friday by U.S. News & World Report. It’s the highest ranking ever for the law school and ranks it as the 11th best public law school in the country. “In the competitive marketplace of higher education there is no doubt that, with appropriate funding, our state offers premier educational opportunities. It is a proud day for our campus, the legal profession, and the state of Alabama,” said Ken Randall, dean of the UA School of Law…The UA School of Social Work ranks No. 28 in the country…

Gridiron weekend canceled

…On Saturday, MSL Sports and Entertainment announced the Gridiron Bash, an event that sought to turn spring football games at 16 schools across the country into a weekend entertainment event, has been postponed until later this fall due to an NCAA interpretation that would limit student athletes involvement in the event. ‘The issue over player participation has caused confusion among the schools during this critical window of time in which they had left to properly promote the event,’ said Shawn Garrity, president of MSL Sports. ‘With valuable time being lost awaiting NCAA clarification, we felt it was in the best interest of all parties involved to allow our participating universities and their marketing partners more time to adequately prepare for this event.’…’While we are very disappointed that the Gridiron Bash has been canceled, we very much appreciate the tremendous support of our fans,’ said UA Director of Athletics Mal Moore. ‘Our ticket office will issue ticket refunds very soon.’ Earlier this month, Garrity said last year’s record turnout of more than 92,000 people at the A-Day game was an inspiration for the event…

Versatile director embraces diversity, growth of UA opera program

UA Political Scientist Says Siegelman May Not Go Back to Prison

University of Alabama political scientist William Stewart says Siegelman may never go back to prison. Stewart says he expects Siegelman to receive a presidential pardon if a Democrat is elected in November.
