TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Jay K. Lindly, professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering at The University of Alabama, was recently appointed the director of the University Transportation Center for Alabama.
In this position, Lindly is responsible for ensuring the advancement of technology and expertise in transportation through education, research and technology transfer. He coordinates research on the three campuses that make up UTCA, including The University of Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Lindly has been with The University of Alabama for 21 years. Before joining the UA faculty, Lindly worked for five years with Exxon Research and Engineering Co. as an engineer. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree from Kansas State University. In 1987, Lindly received a doctoral degree in civil engineering from Purdue University.
The University Transportation Center for Alabama conducts transportation education, research and technology transfer activities using faculty members and students from The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s fully accredited College of Engineering has more than 2,300 students and more than 100 faculty. In the last seven years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater scholars, Hollings scholars and Portz scholars.
