Witt gets down to business in chamber of commerce role

…David Lanoue, chairman of the political science department at the University of Alabama, said Alabama will be a minor character in light of the other primaries. “We got bigfooted when California and other states joined,” Lanoue said. But Alabama may still play a role in the scramble for delegates. If a candidate needs to win a state or two to continue to be viable, Alabama could be one of those, Lanoue said. “If Mike Huckabee doesn’t think he can win coastal states, this will be one of the states he is going to look to,” he said…

Museum explores enduring legend of Alabama football

…The Bryant museum, on the east side of the University of Alabama campus, isn’t just about the Bear. It tells the whole history of Alabama football. Battered leather helmets, old jerseys, a lumpy ball from the 1894 Auburn game (Bama won, 18-0) fill cases alongside scores of trophies. (According to the museum, Alabama has won more games in the past 65 years than any other college football team. It lists 12 national championships, including six during Bryant’s 25-year reign.) The Saturday I was there, a flat-screen TV showed highlights from the previous week’s game…

Clemson opener set for Atlanta

…Crimson Tide struck a deal to open the season against Clemson on Aug. 30 in the Georgia Dome at 7 p.m. The game will be televised by either ABC or ESPN. The much-anticipated game finally became official Friday after more than a year of negotiations…
