2007 UA Homecoming Queen Announced

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Kathleen Kelley of Indianapolis, Ind., was named The University of Alabama Homecoming Queen for 2007 on Friday, Oct. 5 during UA’s annual Homecoming Pep Rally on campus.

Kelley is a senior at UA majoring in public relations.

The following students were chosen to be members of the 2007 UA Homecoming Court:

Sophia Francillon, a senior from Montgomery majoring in accounting

Michelle McGaha, a senior from Albertville majoring in industrial engineering

Jessica Pugh, a senior from Huntsville majoring in business

Kahdijiha Rowe, a senior from Atlanta majoring in telecommunication and film

UA students selected the queen in a general campus election held Oct. 2. A record number of 4,327 students voted in this year’s election. The queen is crowned during halftime of the homecoming football game, Alabama vs. Houston, Saturday, Oct. 6.

The Homecoming Choreography Contest took place Thursday, Oct. 4 with winners: 1st place-Phi Mu, 2nd place-Alpha Chi Omega, 3rd place-Alpha Delta Pi.

The Battle of the Bands was also held on Thursday, Oct. 4. The winner was 63 Boyz, 2nd place-Mother Oak, 3rd place-Dixie Road.

Lawn Decorations winners included: Greek organizations 1st place-Chi Omega, 2nd place-Phi Mu, 3rd place-Delta Zeta; Independent organizations 1st place-Computer-Based Honors Program, 2nd place-College of Communication & Information Sciences Ambassadors, 3rd place-Wesley Foundation.

Paint the Town Red competition winners included: 1st place-Delta Zeta, 2nd place-Phi Mu, 3rd place- Computer-Based Honors Program.

Banner Competition winners included: 1st place-Westminster Fellowship, 2nd place-Chi Omega, 3rd place-Parker-Adams Residence Hall.

The 19th annual Roll Tide Run kicked off UA Homecoming Week on Sunday, Sept. 30. Max Dolensky was the winner of the 2-mile race. Winners for the 10K were: 1st place-Jeff Clark, 2nd-John Dickinson and 3rd-Whitney Montgomery.

The Homecoming Bowling Tournament took place on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Bama Bowl. Winners were: 1st place-Westminster Fellowship team 2, 2nd place-Computer-Based Honors team 1, and 3rd place-MBA team 2.

The Basketball Tournament was held on Tuesday, Oct. 2. Winners for the girls’ game were: 1st place- Phi Mu, 2nd place-Kappa Alpha Theta, 3rd place-Pi Beta Phi. The winners of the boys’ game were: 1st place-Sigma Chi, 2nd place-Computer-Based Honors Program, 3rd place-MBA.

Winners for the Dodge Ball Competition on Wednesday, Oct. 3 were: 1st place – Zeta Tau Alpha, 2nd place-Delta Delta Delta, 3rd place-Computer-Based Honors.

The UA Capstone College of Nursing received 1st place in the Float Competition, Alpha Delta Pi received 2nd place and Delta Zeta received 3rd place.
