Two New Directors of Advancement Named at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Shelley D. Jordan has been named director of advancement for the Capstone College of Nursing and Neely J. Portera has been named director of advancement for the School of Social Work at The University of Alabama.

“We are very lucky to have two exceptional fundraising professionals join the advancement team,” said Dr. David F. Wolf, UA assistant vice president for campaigns. “With two years remaining on our capital campaign, it’s important for us to have enthusiastic and energetic team members to help us reach our goal for student scholarships.”

Jordan was formerly the West Alabama community development coordinator for Children’s Health System. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a master’s degree in nursing from The University of Alabama and a juris doctorate from Cumberland Law School at Samford University. She is a licensed registered nurse and attorney in the state of Alabama. Her professional memberships include the Alabama Bar Association, American Bar Association, Alabama Board of Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. Jordan’s community affiliations include First United Methodist Church, PTA of Tuscaloosa Academy, Sustainer Junior League of Tuscaloosa, and West Alabama Heart Association Board.

Portera was formerly manager of chapter development and special events for The University of Alabama National Alumni Association. She holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations from UA. Her community affiliations include the South Dallas County Historic Preservation Society, Kentuck Arts Festival, Junior League of Tuscaloosa, Delta Delta Delta Alumnae Association and advisor for the Delta Mu Chapter of Delta Delta Delta.

The “Our Students. Our Future.” campaign’s $500 million goal includes $250 million for student scholarships. The remaining funds are allocated to faculty support, facilities and priority needs.
