TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Shanna Hocking has been named director of leadership gifts at The University of Alabama. In this role, she will work with major gift donors, focusing on fund-raising efforts for the “Our Students. Our Future.” campaign. Hocking moves to her new position from UA’s School of Social Work where she served as director of advancement.
“Shanna is an exceptional fundraiser and will be an important part of the campaign efforts,” said Dr. David F. Wolf, UA assistant vice president for campaigns. “As we move into the final phases of the campaign, it’s important to have someone of Shanna’s caliber to help us reach our goal for student scholarships.”
Hocking was instrumental in helping the School of Social Work raise $1.4 million toward its $2 million campaign goal. Before joining the UA staff, she was the regional director for Tuscaloosa’s American Heart Association. She has also worked in various development roles at Durham Nativity School and Duke University, both in Durham, N.C., and at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York.
Involved in numerous community and campus organizations, Hocking is the president-elect of the Rotary Club of Tuscaloosa, Ways and Means Chair of the Junior League of Tuscaloosa, a graduate of Leadership Tuscaloosa and a member of UA’s Leadership Academy. She holds bachelor’s degrees from Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary, both in New York.
The “Our Students. Our Future.” campaign’s $500 million goal includes $250 million for student scholarships. The remaining funds are allocated to faculty support, facilities and priority needs.
