UA Professor Appointed as IEEE’s Corporate Integrity Contact Person

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers has appointed Dr. Lloyd A. “Pete” Morley, professor emeritus of electrical engineering at The University of Alabama, as corporate integrity contact person.

Serving in this newly created position, Morley’s duties are similar to that of an ethics and compliance officer in industry. He is the focus person for receiving, investigating and reporting complaints of suspected financial misconduct within IEEE. Morley will report to the IEEE Audit Committee throughout the investigation process, and the final ruling will be left to IEEE’s executive director or Board of Directors.

Morley is a veteran volunteer at IEEE, and he has chaired many IEEE boards and committees. He was named an IEEE Fellow in 1988.

“When I read that the person who fills the role must be of unquestioned integrity, I was really honored to be asked to serve,” said Morley. “I want to make people in our organization feel comfortable about what to do if they find someone doing something they suspect to be wrong.”

IEEE was founded in 1884 and is the world’s largest technical professional society. It is made up of more than 370,000 members who participate in activities in 150 countries. The members of IEEE are the technical and scientific professionals making the revolutionary engineering advances that are reshaping our world today.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s fully accredited College of Engineering has about 1,900 students and nearly 100 faculty. In the last seven years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater scholars, Hollings scholars and Portz scholars.
