TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Graduate School has announced the 2006-2007 recipients of Graduate Council Fellowships, the most prestigious and competitive graduate fellowships at UA awarded to graduate students with the highest academic and scholarly qualifications.
Recipients are selected by the UA Graduate Council, which consists of graduate faculty members from each college of the University. The fellowships provide an award for tuition and fees, plus an annual stipend.
Some 66 graduate students were awarded fellowships for 2006-2007, including:
Abbe Gayle Boeka of Amarillo, Texas, in the doctoral degree program in clinical psychology. Boeka received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas Christian University in 2003 and a master’s degree in psychology from UA in 2005.
Roger Paul Klee II of Huntsville in the doctoral degree program in finance. Klee received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in finance from UA in 2002 and 2003 respectively.
Colin Brett Chapell of St. Louis, Mo., in the doctoral degree program in history. Chapell received a bachelor’s degree in history from Covenant College in 2004 and a master’s in historical studies from Crirton College-University of Cambridge in 2006.
Zheng Hu of China in the doctoral degree program in chemical engineering. Hu received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from Tianjin Univeristy in 1996 and 2000 respectively.
Induvadana Ankareddi of India in the doctoral degree program in chemical engineering. Ankareddi received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology in 2003 and a master’s degree in chemical engineering from UA in 2005.
Jintong Tang of China in the doctoral degree program in management. Tang received a bachelor’s degree in international trade from Tianjin Foreign Studies University in 1996 and a master’s in management information systems from Governors State University in 2003.
Susan Sheryl Roberts of Tuscaloosa in the master’s degree program in art. Roberts received a bachelor’s degree in art education from Jacksonville State University in 1975 and a master’s degree in art education from UA in 1993.
Amanda Catherine Roth Clark of Eugene, Ore., in the master’s degree program in library and information studies. Clark received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art history from the University of Oregon in 2001 and 2005.
Heidi Helmer of Mobile in the doctoral degree program in social work. Helmer received bachelor’s degrees in English and social work from UA, and a master’s degree in social work from UA in 2001 as a Daniel’s Scholar.
Lea Georgette Yerby of Tuscaloosa in the doctoral degree program in health education and promotion. Yerby received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Belmont University in 2000 and a master’s degree in Human Environmental Sciences from UA in 2002.
Hunter Matthew Holzhauer of Benton, Ark., in the doctoral degree program in finance. Holzhauer received a bachelor’s degree in bio-psychology and business administration from Birmingham-Southern College in 2003 and a master’s degree in business administration from Mississippi State University in 2004.
Oiuhui Jiang of China in the doctoral degree program in secondary education. Jiang received a bachelor’s degree in English from the Ocean University of Oingdao in 2000 and a master’s in applied linguistics of foreign linguistics from the Shangai Jiaotong University in 2003.
Rafay Ishfaq of Pakistan in the doctoral degree program in operations management. Ishfaq received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology-Pakistan in 1993 and a master’s in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University in 2002.
Mingming Zhang of China in the doctoral degree program in metallurgical and materials engineering. Zhang received a bachelor’s degree in mineral and metallurgical engineering from the Central South University in China in 1997 and a master’s in mineral and metallurgical engineering from Beijing General Research Institute in 2000.
Stacey Denise Gaines of Flora, Miss., in the doctoral degree program in English. Gaines received a bachelor’s degree in English from Mississippi College in 2003 and a master’s in English from there in 2006.
Adriana Durbala of Romania in the doctoral degree program in physics and astronomy. Durbala received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics from the University of Bucharest in 2000 and 2002 respectively.
Jerry Wayne Laughlin of Tuscaloosa in the doctoral degree program in higher education administration. Laughlin received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UAB in 1970 and a master’s degree in psychology from the University of West Alabama in 2004.
Daniel Lindors Keegan of Austin, Texas, in the master’s degree program in English. Keegan received a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Oberlin College in 2004.
Rajwinder Pal Singh Sachdeva of India in the master’s degree program in industrial engineering. Sachdeva received a bachelor’s degree in production engineering from Runjab Engineering College in 2002.
Lauren Patricia Choplin of Woodbury, N.J., in the master’s degree program in creative writing. Choplin received a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from the University of Southern California in 2004.
Dominic F. Qualley of Minneapolis in the doctoral degree program in biochemistry. Qualley received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1998.
Emad Mohamed Refaat Abdel-Raouf of Tuscaloosa in the doctoral degree program in mechanical engineering. Abdel-Raouf received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from UA in 2005.
Vincent Franco of Poplar Bluff, Mo., in the doctoral degree program in chemistry. Franco received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Rose-Nulman Institute of Technology in 2005.
Walter McNeil Campbell IV of Florence in the master’s degree program in accountancy. Campbell received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from UA in 2006 summa cum laude.
Rachel Joyce McWhorter of Birmingham in the master’s degree program in women’s studies. McWhorter received a bachelor’s degree in English from Samford University in 2004.
Susan Howell Goertz of Tuscaloosa is in the master’s degree program in human development and family studies. Goertz received a bachelor’s degree in finance from UA in 1983.
Elizabeth Jane Kitchens of Birmingham in the master’s degree program in biological sciences. Kitchens received a bachelor’s degree in biology from UA in 2006.
Arielle Christine Barlow of Decatur in the master’s degree program in speech and language pathology. Barlow received a bachelor’s degree in communicative disorders from UA in 2006.
Velvet Dawn Preston of Huntsville in the master’s degree program in mathematics. Preston received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from UA in 2005.
David Gaither Whitman of Heflin in the master’s degree program in civil engineering.
Whitman received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from UA in 2006 summa cum laude.
Nicole Ashley Mack of Huntsville in the master’s degree program in marketing. Mack received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from UA in 2006.
Susanna Carol McLaney of Montgomery in the master’s degree program in speech and language pathology. McLaney received a bachelor’s degree in communicative disorders from UA in 2006 magna cum laude.
Jacob J. DaSilva of Toledo, Ohio, in the master’s degree program in American studies. DaSilva received a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Toledo in 2005.
William Histaspas Stewart III of Hartselle in the master’s degree program in educational psychology. Stewart received a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from UA in 2005.
Karl David Keller of Huntsville in the master’s degree program in Spanish. Keller received a bachelor’s degree in foreign language and international trade from UAH in 2005 magna cum laude.
Gregory S. Vander Wal of Grand Rapids, Mich., in the doctoral degree program in clinical psychology. Vander Wal received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Samford University in 2005.
Lauren Rachel Biggers of Florence in the doctoral degree program in computer science. Biggers received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from UA in 2006 summa cum laude.
Martin P. Morthland of Tuscaloosa in the doctoral degree program in clinical psychology. Morthland received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UAB in 1996.
Alyson Smith of Providence, R.I., in the doctoral degree program in school psychology. Smith received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bates College in 1998.
Bethany Untied of Zanesville, Ohio, in the doctoral degree program in French. Untied received a bachelor’s degree in French from Ohio University in 2005 summa cum laude.
Rachel Elizabeth Baden of Raleigh, N.C. in the doctoral degree program in clinical psychology. Baden received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Duke University in 2003 cum laude.
