TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama Public Radio, which broadcasts from studios in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama, has begun a one of a kind “Prototype” podcast.
“Prototype” is an acronym for “Public Radio of Tomorrow Telling Your Personal Experience.” The podcasts contain two or three short stories ranging from three to seven minutes each. The podcasting-only shows include features on interesting people, events and music from around Alabama.
“Prototype” is one of the first exclusively-podcast shows by public radio.
“‘Prototype’ will give people of all ages an opportunity to listen to stories they would not always get to hear,” said Bobby Puppione, executive producer and host of the show. “I am very excited to be a part of this groundbreaking endeavor from the Alabama Public Radio newsroom. Podcasting is the latest technology and is growing everyday.”
The first show was launched on Wednesday, Feb. 15, and there will be a new podcast every Wednesday at noon available at www.apr.org/prototype. Blogs, newsletters and photographs accompany each show.
APR also provides podcast editions of “This Week in Alabama History,” “Alabama Life,” “The Alabama Report,” “APR News Reports,” “Don Noble Reviews” and “Speaking of Pets.”
“Prototype” has grant sponsorship from the Alabama State Council for the Arts.
A podcast is a video or audio file on the Internet and made available to download for listening on mobile devices, such as an Apple iPod, and personal computers. Listeners can listen when, where and how they want.
