UA Student From Evanston Named to McNair Program

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Latoya Scott of Evanston, Ill., has been selected as a 2005 McNair Scholar at The University of Alabama.

During the summer of 2005, under the guidance of faculty mentor Dr. Jerome Rosenberg, UA professor of psychology and New College, Scott is conducting research on the role of non-academic factors in the retention of African-American students in predominantly white universities.

The McNair Scholars Program is a prestigious scholarship and research program that helps prepare accomplished undergraduates for graduate study. A U.S. Department of Education TRIO program, McNair Scholars serves first-generation college students and students from other groups underrepresented in doctoral study.
