TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the first time, The University of Alabama will broadcast its commencement ceremonies live over the Internet on May 10.
Both the 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. ceremonies will be available. Those wishing to view the ceremonies on the Internet can go to the main UA web page at http://www.ua.edu to find the Webcast link. The Webcast will require the free Windows Media Player and a broadband connection.
“It is with great pleasure that we announce this new initiative. Family members anywhere in the world – including those serving in Iraq – can now see their family and friends graduate,” said Dr. Judy Bonner, UA provost and vice-president for academic affairs.
“We hope that this service meets the needs of graduates, and their guests who can not attend, as well as all the members of the Crimson Tide family interested in this special event,” said Dr. Roger Thompson, assistant vice-president for enrollment management and University registrar.
The webcast will be archived on UA’s website and will be available for viewing until May 30.
James P. Hayes Jr., president of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, will give the commencement address. Hayes will speak at both ceremonies and will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters, along with Dr. John Hicks, secretary of the UA Board of Trustees and executive assistant to the chancellor.
