UA Mechanical Engineering Professor Receives Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Yuebin Guo, assistant professor of mechanical engineering at The University of Alabama, was recently selected as one of nine engineering educators to receive the 2004 Society of Automotive Engineers Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award. The award was presented at the SAE Honors Convocation Luncheon in Detroit, Mich.

“We’re very happy Yuebin has been recognized in this manner,” said Dr. William Sutton, head of the department of mechanical engineering. “He is a prime example of the quality faculty we have in UA’s College of Engineering.”

In addition to the luncheon, recipients were guests of honor at SAE’s World Congress & Exposition where they discussed common technical interests with practicing engineers from representative companies of the automotive industry, as well as participated in a full day of technical presentations and discussions at DaimlerChrysler Corp., this year’s industry host.

SAE is a non-profit educational and scientific organization dedicated to advancing mobility technology to better serve humanity. More than 83,000 SAE engineer and scientist members develop technical information on all forms of self-propelled vehicles.

In 1837, UA became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering, with about 1,900 students and more than 90 faculty, is one of the three oldest continuously operating engineering programs in the country and has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
