UA to Host Reception for Visiting Scholar of Islamic Studies

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama department of history, UA Honors Program and other campus organizations will host a reception for Dr. Haifaa Jawad, visiting scholar of Islamic studies, on Monday, Feb. 23, in Temple Tutwiler Hall from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Jawad is a native of Iraq and holds degrees in international relations from the University of Baghdad and from Exeter University in England. Currently, she is a member of the theology faculty at the University of Birmingham in England and comes to UA through the Understanding Contemporary Islam initiative of the American University of Beirut and the Fulbright Foundation.

Jawad will be at UA all semester, and will participate in guest lectures, panel discussions and presentations.

The University community is invited to attend the reception.
