It means just a few cents and some added convenience for you, but for an international organization like Procter & Gamble (P&G) using technology to direct consumers to their products is a new and significant step in the marketing process.

UA Celebrates International Education Week

The University of Alabama is participating in International Education Week at the behest of Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and Secretary of Education Rod Paige. The week-long celebration is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States.

UA Student Newspaper Staff Receives Awards

Members of The University of Alabama’s student-run newspaper, The Crimson White (CW), won five awards in the Best of Collegiate Design contest, announced during the National College Media Convention in Dallas Nov. 5-9.

UA Journalism Professor Receives Freedom of Expression Award

Dr. Matthew D. Bunker, Reese Phifer Professor of Journalism in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama, recently received the Franklyn S. Haiman Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Freedom of Expression for his book, “Critiquing Free Speech: First Amendment Theory and the Challenge of Interdisciplinarity.”

UA’s Public Relations Program Named One of Nation’s Best

The public relations program in the College of Communication and Information Sciences department of advertising and public relations at The University of Alabama recently received Public Relations Society of America Certification (CEPR). PRSA’s certification report called UA’s PR program “one of the most successful undergraduate programs in the country.”

Medical and Science Programs Target Rural High-School Students

Children who grow up in the Black Belt and other parts of rural Alabama are not surrounded by many role models who work in science-related professions, says Dr. Martha Powell, professor and chair of biological sciences at UA. As a result, many of these students may not seriously consider a science career.

UA to Host Collegiate Soccer Sport Club National Championships

The 10th annual National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Collegiate Soccer Sport Club championships will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, through Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Student Recreation Center field complex of The University of Alabama and at Sokol Park fields.

AIDS Memorial Quilt to be on Display

The Names Project Foundation AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display at the Ferguson Center on The University of Alabama campus from Nov. 17- Dec. 5. It will be hung for viewing in the stairwell behind the information desk from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sunday.
