UA Women’s Resource Center to Hold Candlelight Vigil for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center, National Pan-Hellenic Council, the Panhellenic Association and Interfraternity Council will sponsor a candlelight vigil at Denny Chimes, Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Participants will light candles to remember victims of domestic violence and the chimes will ring 27 times for the number of domestic violence homicide victims in Alabama last year. The event is open to the public.

In addition to the vigil, purple ribbons will be displayed across campus to show support for the fight against domestic violence, said Elle Shaaban, UA Campus Violence Project Coordinator. “Everyone has a responsibility to bring about the social change necessary to stop the violence,” she said.
