Record Enrollment at UA Tops 20,000

A record number of students is enrolled at The University of Alabama this fall as enrollment topped 20,000 for the first time in the University’s history.

UA Astronomy Hosts Public Viewing, Showcases Mars, Full Moon

On Friday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m., The University of Alabama department of astronomy will host a viewing of Mars and the full moon.

UA-Sponsored Nursing Hall of Fame Set for Oct. 9

UA Student Receives ASHRAE Grant

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers Inc. awarded Barbara Hattemer, a graduate student in mechanical engineering at The University of Alabama, a $7,500 grant.

UA IIE Student Chapter Earns Gold Award

The University of Alabama Institute of Industrial Engineers student chapter received the Gold Award in the 2003 IIE national chapter recognition competition. It marked the third consecutive year the UA chapter earned the award.

UA Student Group Hosts Law Speaker

Professor David E. Bernstein of the George Mason University School of Law will speak Thursday, Oct. 9, at noon in the Moot Court Room of The University of Alabama School of Law on “How Antidiscrimination Laws are Being Used to Suppress Civil Liberties.” His talk, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the Federalist Society, a student organization of the UA School of Law.

Alabama Homes Sales for August Highest on Record, According to UA Center

Existing home sales in Alabama increased 2.9 percent in August to 5,019 units, and for the second straight month Alabama set a new record for the highest recorded number of homes sold in a single month, according to figures released by the Alabama Real Estate Research and Education Center at The University of Alabama.

Math Learning Enters the Computer Age

In January 2003, Greensboro East High School became the first of three high schools in Alabama to begin teaching mathematics with computers and one-on-one tutoring when it opened its Math Technology Learning Center (MTLC), a facility modeled after UA’s own Math Technology Learning Center in Tutwiler Hall.
