Sign Up for UA’s Eighth Annual ‘Making it in the Media’ Job Fair

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The eighth annual “Making it in the Media Job Fair,” one of the longest-running campus job fairs for the communications industries, is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bryant Conference Center on The University of Alabama campus.

Up to 75 representatives from all sectors of the media and some 300 students from campuses throughout the Southeast typically attend. Students will be seeking internships and information about jobs. The job fair is hosted by the College of Communication and Information Sciences in conjunction with the C&IS Board of Visitors and Capstone Communication Society, the alumni association for the College.

“We put out a mass e-mail a week ago,” said Dr. Edward Mullins, professor and chair of the journalism department and coordinator of the job fair. “Within two days we had 150 students registered, and now we’re up to 200. We’ve never had them respond to anything this fast.”

There still is time for recruiters and students alike to sign up. Company representatives should send an e-mail message to mullins@jn.ua.edu with the name, title and e-mail address of its representative, name of company, city/state and preferred length of interviews (usually 10-20 minutes). Companies should let Mullins know if they need any special hookups, and they should bring their own signs and brochures. Interview space will be provided.

Students should send an e-mail message to Mullins giving their name, college, major/minor and fields of interest. They also should bring at least a half dozen resumes and work samples to leave with recruiters.

The College of Communication & Information Sciences is among the largest and most prestigious communication colleges in the nation. Graduating more than 12,000 students, C&IS is consistently ranked among the top 10 in number of doctoral degrees awarded and in many of its research programs. C&IS graduates have won four of the six Pulitzer Prizes awarded to University of Alabama alumni, and the forensics and debate squad, housed within the College, has garnered 14 national championships.
