UA Capstone Engineering Society Announces New National Chair

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Capstone Engineering Society of The University of Alabama College of Engineering recently announced that Rodney Summerford has assumed the role of national chair.

During his two-year term as national chair, Summerford will preside over all CES board meetings, oversee all activities and responsibilities of the board, and serve on the committee that elects new board members.

Summerford, who received a bachelor of science in civil engineering from UA’s College of Engineering in 1962, is senior vice president for Volkert & Associates in Mobile. He has been with Volkert since 1964. Notable projects that he has designed include the Mobile Municipal Airport and the four miles of I-565 in Huntsville, which is considered the most complex portion of the area because of the business district location. Summerford is a licensed professional engineer in four states.

The Capstone Engineering Society, established in 1972, is the alumni society of the College of Engineering. The CES is dedicated to maintaining relationships and sharing resources with UA engineering alumni to ensure that the College is able to provide UA engineering students with a superior educational experience.
