UA College Bowl Representatives Crowned in Tournament

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Twenty-one teams from residence halls, Greek letter organizations, honor societies, campus departments and just groups of friends competed for the chance to represent The University of Alabama in the 2003 College Bowl Regional Championship. The single elimination tournament, which was held Jan. 21-23, ended with Mallet Assembly Team A in first place for UA.

Members of Mallet Assembly Team A are Brian Pope (captain), a senior majoring in advertising from Mobile; Lee Whatley, a criminal justice graduate student from Mobile; Patrick Link, a senior majoring in political science and history from Tuscaloosa; and Robert Davis, a senior majoring in aerospace engineering and mechanics from Montgomery.

The team will travel to the Regional Championship at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Ga. on Feb. 22-23. The winner will represent Region 6 at the national College Bowl Tournament to be held in Philadelphia in April.

The semi-final and championships matches for the UA tournament featured Parker Adams II vs. Phi Sigma Pi and The A Team (a Mallet Assembly team) vs. Mallet Assembly Team A. The Championship match was Phi Sigma Pi vs. Mallet Team A, who won the close match 135-95.
