Outstanding High School Students Prepare to be Future Leaders at UA Event

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama National Alumni Association in conjunction with the UA Student Government Association, Council of Coordinating Student Organizations (CCSO) and Office of Leadership Development will host the Capstone Leadership Assembly and Seminar (CLAsS) on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Bryant Conference Center from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

CLAsS recognizes Alabama high-school students who have excelled in leadership activities at their respective schools. The seminar will provide students with information to enhance their college experiences regardless of their choice of educational institution. High school guidance counselors nominated the participants.

There will be student breakout sessions, parent seminars and an adviser roundtable discussion. The seminar will cover interviewing skills, decision making, leadership assessment, motivation and more. Participants will meet current University student leaders, faculty members, administrators and professional staff.

This year’s keynote speaker is Jacquett C. Wade, the multicultural coordinator at Penn State York who has worked extensively with students on leadership and organization development. She has served as assistant director in Penn State University’s AT&T Center for Service Leadership and as a residence life coordinator at Penn State Erie-The Behrend College. Wade graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

Participants will receive a CLAsS certificate and gift for attending. Approximately 300 students, parents and advisers from Alabama are expected to attend.

More information on CLAsS is available by contacting the Office of Leadership Development at 205/348-3277 or CLA@ua.edu.
