TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Campus organizations at The University of Alabama will provide a wide variety of activities to celebrate African American Heritage Month during February.
The UA Office of Student Affairs is coordinating the schedule, which includes numerous student and faculty groups.
Activities planned for the event include:

University Libraries will exhibit books about or authored by African Americans, 1st floor exhibit case, Gorgas Library, Capstone Drive side
W.S. Hoole Library and the history department will exhibit “Angela Davis: Portrait of a Revolutionary” and “The Rabbit’s Wedding Controversy and Segregation in Alabama’s Public Libraries,” both at W.S. Hoole Library
Feb. 2
The NAACP will present a State of Black History Address at 3:45 p.m., Ferguson Center Theater
UA African American Association (AAA) will have African American Staff Appreciation, 4 p.m., Ferguson Center Theater
Feb. 3
Dr. James Hood will give a speech, “The Stand that Delivered”, at 7:30 p.m., Alston Hall room 30, sponsored by Sigma Gamma Rho
Feb. 4
Student Government will hold a Black History Observance Convocation featuring Dr. Charles Nash, 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Ballroom
Feb. 5
Toby Graham will give a lecture and sign copies of his book, “A Right to Read: Segregation and Civil Rights in Alabama’s Public Libraries,” from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the W.S. Hoole Special Collections Library
University Programs will present “Empowering the World”, a speech by Jamal Harrison Bryant, President of the NAACP Young Adult Organization, and the Alabama Gospel Choir, 7 p.m., Ferguson Center Ballroom
The history department will show the film “Boycott,” at 7 p.m., ten Hoor Hall Room 30
Feb. 7
Sigma Gamma Rho will host Talent Showcase, a talent show, at 8 p.m. in the Presidential Pavilion
The African American Gospel Choir will present Christian Night Club, 7 p.m., Baptist Student Center
The NAACP will present UA Comicview, in the Ferguson Center Theater, time TBA

The NAACP will sponsor the Positive Black Male Pageant, 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Theater
Feb. 10
The Russell Student Health Center will hold a Health Career Workshop, 6 p.m., Ferguson Center room 309
The Russell Student Health Center will present a lecture by Dr. Albert White on African American health issues, 7:15 p.m., Ferguson Center room 309
Feb. 11
AAA will host a Brotherhood/Sisterhood Forum, featuring a discussion of various topics, Ferguson Center room 309, time TBA

Health Education and Wellness will hold a Healthy Love Party, featuring films and discussion, 7 p.m., Ferguson Center Heritage Room

Women’s Resource Center and Turning Point will present “A Long Walk Home: A Story of a Rape Survivor,” a performing art event showing issues facing African American women, Ferguson Center Theater, 7 p.m.

The School of Social Work will hold the 15th Annual Celebratory Colloquium, a commemoration of the Birmingham church bombing, 1-3 p.m., Little Hall room 223

The AAGSA will present “Reflections in Black: The Spirit of Togetherness,” a celebration of African American heritage and culture, 6 p.m., Ferguson Theater

Alpha Kappa Alpha will sponsor the “March to the Schoolhouse Door,” from the Ferguson Center to Foster Auditorium, 4:30 p.m.
The history department will show the film “Eyes on the Prize: Bridge to Freedom,” 7 p.m., ten Hoor Hall room 30
State Sen. Charles Steele, Jr. will be the guest speaker at the SGA’s closing convocation at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Theatre
Feb. 27
The National Society of Black Engineers will hold an African American Quiz Bowl, time and location TBA
University Programs will present the film “When We Were Kings,” 7:30 p.m., Ferguson Center Theater
Feb. 28
University Programs will continue the showing of “When We Were Kings,” 7:30 p.m., Ferguson Center Theater
Tiffany Cochran, Atlanta News, will present Renewal of Mind, Body, and Spirit, a choir and dance performance, 7 p.m., Ferguson Center Ballroom, sponsored by NCNW.
