TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The final results of the 2002 “Beat Auburn-Beat Hunger” canned food drive were announced Friday, Nov. 22. University of Alabama students, faculty and staff collected 47,067 pounds of food for the West Alabama Food Bank during the event.
Winning student organizations from UA were: Student Government Association, 1st place; Residential Housing Association, 2nd place; Judicial Affairs, 3rd place. In the Greek division, the winners were Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
The cans were collected at the Ferguson Plaza during the week of the Alabama vs. Auburn football game. The results were also announced during the game on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Although Auburn collected more food than UA and won the overall competition between the two schools, UA’s contribution to West Alabama rose significantly from last year’s total of 26,891 pounds of food.
