UA Career Center to Hold 2002 Career Fair Sept. 25

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — More than 100 employers will be on campus to meet University of Alabama students and alumni interested in jobs during the UA Career Center’s 2002 Career Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Bryant Conference Center.

While offering both internship and employment opportunities, the Career Fair will also give students a chance to learn more about possible career tracks that their major can put them on after graduation.

Susan Cowles, Career Center events coordinator, said the event would give students the opportunity to network with companies that interest them. “The job market is so competitive that you should use all avenues available,” she said. “Students will be able to meet with the companies and see what they have to offer. It’s a really good information gathering opportunity for students.”

Organizations ranging from the Alabama Department of Revenue to the Kimberly-Clark Corp. will be accepting resumes from students from all majors. Cowles said that sometimes students tend to believe some companies would not be interested in their major, however, “they can see companies they never thought of that hire students in their majors,” she said.

Because this is often the first contact with a potential employer, the Career Center encourages students and alumni to dress professionally for the event and bring resumes.

Interviews with companies can be set up through the Career Center or through that particular company. While most interviews are conducted at a later date, Cowles said the center would set up appointments throughout the semester.

Faculty and staff are also invited to stop by and visit employers at the event to share ideas about student recruitment, academic programs, and academic-business partnerships.
