UA NAACP Chapter to Honor Women’s Gymnastics Team

The University of Alabama chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will host a tribute to honor UA student Andree Pickens and the UA Women’s Gymnastics Team for their achievements throughout the year.

UA Student Awarded National Delta Zeta Honors

University of Alabama student Jennifer Traywick of Clanton was named as a recipient of the 2002 Florence Hood Miner Award. The award is given annually to members of Delta Zeta sorority who are in their junior year and have made the greatest contributions to their college chapter and Delta Zeta through outstanding leadership on campus while maintaining a good academic record.

UA Center for Creative Media Names Director, Senior Research Fellow

Universities around the country are working to bring those with creative expertise together to cultivate and enhance creativity among different fields of communication, as well as study new and traditional media forms. The University of Alabama started its Center for Creative Media last year and recently has hired two internationally known leaders in the field.

ALFA Presents Scholarship to UA Rural Medical Scholar

Terry James of Arley was recently awarded the first Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) Rural Medical Scholars Program Scholarship. James is a participant in The University of Alabama Rural Medical Scholars Program and is currently attending the UA School of Medicine in Birmingham.

Remembering to Ask Humpty

Several years ago the trustees of The University of Alabama realized that rural health care needs and solutions were scattered throughout six colleges at UA. To bring together these like-minded people, the Institute of Rural Health Research was begun. The institute, which recently observed its first anniversary, strives to cut red tape and harness the efforts of a wide number of disciplines for one purpose: health in rural America.
