UA’s High School Journalism Camp Provides Opportunities for Students July 19-21

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama Scholastic Press Association (ASPA) will host “The Long Weekend,” a three-day journalism camp at The University of Alabama July 19-21.

All interested high school students and teachers are encouraged to participate in the Friday through Sunday camp, which is an intensive workshop designed to teach creative and efficient ways to communicate.

The Long Weekend also gives students a chance to experience college life by living in dorms with roommates, eating in the University’s dining halls and more.

Students may choose one of the following tracks: newspaper, desktop publishing/technology, photography, yearbook, literary magazine and broadcast. Advisers may participate in one of these tracks along with their students, or they may choose the adviser track and receive continuing education credits.

University faculty and area media professionals will serve as workshop instructors and will be joined by nationally known journalism educators.

The workshop fee of $150 for ASPA members and $175 for non-members includes all room and board expenses. Advisers who bring 10 or more students and assist with dorm supervision will receive a $70 tuition waiver.

For more information or to receive registration forms, log on to www.aspa.ua.edu or contact the ASPA office at 205/348-9298 or aspa@sa.ua.edu. Interested applicants may also reach the ASPA office by writing to P.O. Box 2389, Tuscaloosa, AL 35403.
