UA Community Advisory Council to Host Community of Champions Forum May 9

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Tuscaloosa community leaders are invited to join with University of Alabama officials to share barbeque and discuss ways of developing a stronger community in an event hosted by UA’s Community Advisory Council.

The forum, known as Community of Champions, will be Thursday, May 9 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Eastwood Middle School. Attending the event will be UA President Andrew Sorensen, Mal Moore, athletics director, and Dennis Franchione, head football coach.

“Our Community Advisory Council has been extremely helpful to The University of Alabama as a sounding board on matters of concern to citizens in West Alabama,” said Samory Pruitt, UA’s assistant to the president for community and corporate relations. “The Community of Champions neighborhood events will allow us to meet other community leaders in a fun setting and provide a forum to discuss ways we can work together to further improve the quality of life in our local communities.”

This free event, also hosted by District 5 City Councilman Kip Tyner and District 5 Board of Education Representative Dan Meissner, is one in a series of community involvement meetings planned for Northport and Tuscaloosa neighborhoods and coordinated by Pruitt.

Representatives from community associations, churches, and school communities are among those encouraged to attend. For more information, call 205/348-8375.
