UA Women’s Resource Center Sponsors ‘Celebrate Girls’ Banquet

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center will sponsor the third annual Celebrate Girls banquet on Thursday, April 25, at 6 p.m. at the University Club.

The Celebrate Girls banquet gives young girls an opportunity to see possibilities for their future and hear from women who have forged the way. The theme is “Imagine the Possibilities.”

Before the banquet, there will be an information fair with resources for girls on a variety of subjects. The program, held in honor of “Take Our Daughters to Work Day,” is open to girls between the ages of nine and 16 years old with an accompanying adult. The cost is $20 per guest; payment is due by April 22.

Sen. Sundra Escott-Russell, the first African American woman elected to the
Alabama Senate, will be the guest speaker. She served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1981 until 1993. In addition to her public service as a senator, she is on the board of the Department of Youth Services and chairperson for the Children, Youth Affairs and Human Resource Committee.
