Author Gay Talese To Speak At Ua Graduation May 19

Best-selling author Gay Talese will be the featured speaker for The University of Alabama’s spring commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 19 in Coleman Coliseum on the UA campus. Two University-wide commencement ceremonies will be held this year at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively, to award degrees.

Chris Stripling, energy manager for The University of Alabama and a UA alumnus, was recently named Young Engineer of the Year by the Engineering Council of Birmingham. UA College Of Engineering Offers Summer Program For High School Students

The Student Introduction to Engineering Program in The University of Alabama College of Engineering will host two, week-long residential programs this summer for high school juniors and seniors who have an interest in science, mathematics and engineering. The first session is scheduled for July 8-13, 2001, and the second will be July 15-20, 2001.

UA Student Awarded National Fellowship

Lindsy Farina of Killen, a senior at The University of Alabama, has been awarded a fellowship to attend the 2001 Summer School in Nuclear and Radiochemistry at San Jose State University June 18-July 27.
