TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Lindsy Farina of Killen, a senior at The University of Alabama, has been awarded a fellowship to attend the 2001 Summer School in Nuclear and Radiochemistry at San Jose State University June 18-July 27.
Farina, the daughter of George and Vicki Farina, is one of 12 recipients chosen nationally for the fellowship, valued at more than $11,000. She is a 1998 graduate of Brooks High School. At UA, she is majoring in chemistry and minoring in math.
The Division of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology of the American Chemistry Society (ACS) founded the summer school program at San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif., to promote interest in nuclear science. The fellowship is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and administered through the ACS.
The six-week program consists of lecture and laboratory work, research, guest lectures, and opportunities to meet and interact with prominent nuclear and radiochemistry research scientists.
