UA Women’s Resource Center Offers Defense Training Program

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center, in conjunction with the UA Office of the Dean of Students, will offer Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training. The training sessions will be Feb. 13, 15, 20, and 22 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

RAD training teaches a set of coordinated motions or defenses with the intent to escape an attacker and/or situation. The program consists of four sessions. Each session will focus on an aspect of defense, such as education, awareness, physical defense, and simulated confrontation.

The program was created in 1989 and is now offered at more than 400 colleges, universities, rape crisis centers and law enforcement agencies across the U.S. and Canada.

The RAD sessions are open to the public; registration is limited to 40 per class. Comfortable clothing is recommended and a certificate will be given to those who attend the first three sessions.

The location of the sessions will be announced at a later date. For information or to register, contact the Women’s Resource Center at 205/348-5040.
